Innumerable changes have taken place in the work of art music composers in the 21st century. Co-operation among the artists and researchers in various fields has increased. Methods for the realisation of art in other branches of the arts have also found a pathway to collaborative projects with composers. Performance modes are opened up beyond concert halls – to galleries, city premises and nature-based venues. At the same time, composers have embarked on a consideration of the significance of their work. Concern for the planet and the condition of humankind has arisen as a central theme in musical compositions. Is composing changing over time? What does composing look like from the perspective of future research?

Music and futurist researcher Riikka Hiltunen, composers Tytti Arola, Mikko Heiniö, Hannu Pohjannoro and Walter Sallinen, and singer/conductor Jutta Seppinen will participate in the seminar. In addition, a representative from Teosto will take part in the dialogue. Composer Riikka Talvitie will moderate the seminar.

The language of the seminar, organised by Suomen Säveltäjät ry (The Society of Finnish Composers), will be Finnish.
